Round Maine, Inc. and Ward Cedar Log Homes utilize Northern White Cedar logs exclusively, because it is the most attractive and longest-lasting wood used in the log home industry today. Your log home built with Northern White Cedar logs may be finished to maintain its natural golden honey color or left to age naturally, turning a beautiful gray tone. Our cedar logs have been air dried for up to six months prior to final shaping and cutting, so they will be dimensionally stable and resist shrinking and warping. Unlike pine and other woods used in building construction, the heartwood of Northern White Cedar produces its own natural barrier to decay and insects, in the form of chemical compounds called thujaplicins. This is why cedar has traditionally been used for fencing and utility poles. |
